Bringing Life-Saving Health Care To Those Most In Need

Senitizo provides facility-based health care, and we invest our resources in a clinic-by-clinic approach. Instead of patchwork fixes to a broken health system, our work at health centers is comprehensive to ensure a high level of quality in the services provided.

Senitizo’s engagement with health facilities includes the provision of essential drugs and medical supplies, capacity building for health providers and administrators, and construction of necessary health facility infrastructure. These activities ensure that the supported clinics have the capacity to treat common diseases that cause the vast majority of death and illness in the country.

Senitizo also fully operates a primary health center, which can also serve as a model for future projects. Directly ensuring the access to high-quality health services for the population in partnership with local health authorities is our long-term approach since it is unlikely that in the decades to come the government alone will be able to effectively provide these services.

The alarming lack of skilled health personnel in CAR makes support for human resources for health an essential element of the organization’s operations. A long-term, sustainable strengthening of the health system requires building the capacity of local health care providers.

Currently, Senitizo addresses this issue in two different ways: pre-service and in-service training and mentorship. Through our medical education scholarship program, we support high achieving medical students complete there pre-service medical training certifications who without support would be unable to pay for their studies. During their studies, Senitizo hosts students at our supported health facilities for academic internships and upon completion of their degree the students are offered positions at a clinic.

Training and mentoring local health providers that are already in practice is also necessary to achieve a higher quality of health service delivery. Senitizo provides on-the-job mentoring and supportive supervision for health workers at our supported health facilities and nearby government facilities, when asked. This mentoring approach immediately improves the quality of health services at the targeted facilities, as well as starts to build a sustainable bank of knowledge and skill for these health workers.

Engagement with the communities we serve is the base from which all of our activities are built upon. It is essential to gain the trust and support of the people in tandem with providing health services. The primary way Senitizo builds these relationships in the communities we serve is through education activities. Our community health workers lead these efforts by organizing seminars on basic health, hygiene, and education practices within the villages where we work.

These education sessions are followed up by one-on-one house visits by the community health workers to follow-up specifically with households with pregnant women and children during which they can identify cases of malnutrition and organize pre-natal visits at the health clinic. Our work in communities enables us to understand how we can best sustainably support them and expanding preventative health care in these villages pays dividends over the long-term.
